The 557th Division is one of several newly created divisions that were made to deal with the influx of recruits after the recent Operation Firestorm disaster. The 557th contains many friends and relatives of the troopers lost during Firestorm, which makes it one of the three legacy divisions that exist in the Mobile Infantry.

The 557th only recently completed initial training, and have since been assigned to operations on Dustbowl, the planet where the famous 48th Division were operating before they were called to Operation Firestorm.
